Jeff Samardzija was cruising with a six-run lead on Wednesday night at Chase Field seemingly on his way to his seventh win. But Samardzija was knocked out in the sixth inning with a four-run lead and the D'backs wound up tying it on Cody Ross' sacrifice fly off Kevin Gregg in the ninth sending the game into extra innings. It was Gregg's third blown save and the 20th for the Cubs bullpen. But Nate Schierholtz scored Anthony Rizzo from first with a 12th inning double off David Hernandez giving the Cubs a 7-6 12-inning win. "Nate that was kind of back to where he was before he got beat up a little bit" manager Dale Sveum said. "That was a huge game." Schierholtz was 3-for-5 with a career high 5 RBIs including a three-run home run off Ian Kennedy. Hector Rondon (2-0) got the win with two innings of scoreless relief. David DeJesus returned to the Cubs tonight after a month on the disabled-list with a shoulder sprain. Sveum inserted DeJesus back in the lead-off spot moving Junior Lake down to No. 2 in the order. DeJesus went 2-for-6 with two runs scored while Lake was 2-for-5 with an RBI. "I thought about it for 10 15 minutes and decided just get Lake at the top of the lineup and it doesn't matter first or second" Sveum said. "DeJesus' game is built for that spot. I've got 'Laker' in the second spot." DeJesus doubled off Kennedy in the fourth and scored on Rizzo's RBI double. Schierholtz's run-scoring single made it 2-0 and the Cubs added four in the fifth on Lake's RBI double and the three-run home run by Schierholtz. Samardzija shut out Arizona over the first four innings before Darwin Barney let a grounder go through his leg for an error allowing two runs to score. It was Barney's third error of the season. Samardzija was lifted with two on and two outs in the sixth after 118 pitches. "At that time kind of wanted a fresh arm" Sveum said. "But that went over like a fart in a spacesuit."
