The San Francisco 49ers announced Tuesday afternoon they've decided to keep back-up offensive tackle Garry Gilliam around for the near future by signing him to an extension that will put him under contract through 2019. Gilliam, 27, signed with the 49ers in free agency last year on a one-deal and played in eight games (one start) before being placed on injured reserve with a knee injury. A product of Penn State University, where he played tight end before being converted to tackle as a senior, Gilliam spent his first three NFL seasons with the Seattle Seahawks, where he started 30 games after joining the league as an undrafted free agent in 2014.
