Irish Illustrated has confirmed through a source that Fighting Irish redshirt freshman safety Derrik Allen is set to transfer from Notre Dame.

Although he hasn't put his name into the Transfer Portal quite yet, there is no optimism from anyone inside the Gug that he'll remain in South Bend and the expectation is that he'll be at a new school in the coming months.

The 6-2, 210-pounder didn't see any action as a true freshman after signing in the 2018 class. He initially chose the Irish over an outstanding list of scholarship offers from Alabama, Clemson, Duke, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma and many others.

“The football experience, being able to play different conferences," said Allen, way back in 2017 when he committed to Notre Dame. "The education and connections I'll have when football is over.

“The weight of the academic scholarship,” continued Allen, when asked what separated Notre Dame from the rest. “It’s a good football program with good academics. It’s not a four-year decision, but a 40-year one. Simple as that.
