The Buffalo Sabres traded forward Sam Reinhart to the Florida Panthers in exchange for Florida goaltender prospect Devon Levi and a 2022 first-round draft pick, the teams announced on Saturday. As part of the trade, the first-round pick has lottery protection. If the pick ends up in the top 10 next year, the first-rounder moves to 2023 instead.

Reinhart, 25, was drafted by the Sabres in 2014 with the No. 2 pick. In 454 career games, Reinhart has scored 134 goals and tallied 161 assists.

In 2021, he led Buffalo with 25 goals and 40 points in 54 games.

"Sam has established himself as one of the best playmaking scorers in the league, and we are thrilled to be able to add him to our Panthers lineup," Panthers general manager Bill Zito said in a statement. "His competitiveness and hunger to succeed will fit seamlessly with the culture we are building here in South Florida."
