The Royals have shut down pitcher Luke Hochevar after an MRI on Tuesday revealed a sprained ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. Hochevar will receive two to three weeks to rest and recover, manager Ned Yost said. The organization hopes he can return to big-league action by the end of May – and that’s the “best-case scenario,” Yost said. When Hochevar returns, he will work as a reliever. He excelled in a late-inning role in 2013, but still pushed to join the fifth starter competition this spring. “Realistically,” Yost said, the three finalists are Yordano Ventura, Danny Duffy and Wade Davis.
