The Kansas City Royals are sending right-hander Luke Hochevar to the bullpen after more than five seasons in the rotation. Hochevar was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2006 draft. Later that first round, the Tigers took left-hander Andrew Miller at No. 6, and the Diamondbacks selected current Tigers right-hander Max Scherzer at No. 11. Hochevar, 29, was competing with Bruce Chen, Will Smith and Luis Mendoza for the fifth rotation spot. He is scheduled to make $4.56 million this season. Last season, Hochevar was 8-16 with a 5.73 ERA, Overall, he's 38-59 with a 5.39 ERA. He'll pitch in long relief, although it's possible the Royals will trade him or release him. The Royals also placed right-hander Guillermo Moscoso on waivers Wednesday.
