Roma have suggested that Chelsea failed to sign Edin Dzeko because they were unwilling to meet the striker’s asking price. The Premier League champions did manage to strike a deal with Roma this month as Emerson Palmieri completed his £25 million move to Stamford Bridge on Tuesday. But Chelsea were unable to secure a move for Dzeko, who will now stay with the Serie A club after rejecting the offer to return to the Premier League. Chelsea are now on the brink of signing Olivier Giroud from Arsenal for £18m, which is a significantly lower fee than what Roma were demanding for Dzeko.
