The Rockets landed the defensive-minded center they had targeted in free agency when deal-making began on Monday, reaching agreement with Bulls center Daniel Theis, a person with knowledge of the deal said.

The Rockets will land Theis with a four-year, $35.6 million deal, using the trade exception generated in the deal that sent Victor Oladipo to Miami.

Theis, a 6-foot-8, four-year veteran, is considered a strong, versatile defensive center, able to switch on the perimeter but a bit undersized for some matchups. With agreement to sign Theis, which cannot be official until 11:01 a.m. on Friday, the Rockets will have landed the centers they had targeted in each of the past two free agent periods after signing Christian Wood in a sign-and-trade deal before last season.
