In a somewhat sloppy game that saw a combined total of 18 minor penalties the Phoenix Coyotes rounded out their early season road trip with a third straight win taking six out of a possible 10 points. The Coyotes once again opened the scoring with Mikkel Boedker tallying his second goal of the season with help from captain Shane Doan and Derek Morris on the power play at 4:59 of the first period. The lead would hold until late in the opening frame when Eric Staal put one past netminder Mike Smith after a strange bounce off the glass on a Coyotes clearing attempt. After a Riley Nash deflection put the Canes up 2-1 in the second the Coyotes responded 90 seconds later with Rob Klinkhammer bashing the puck past Anton Khudobin after a strong effort in the crease. Khudobin would leave the game shortly after injuring himself coming out to play the puck and the Coyotes gave Cam Ward a rough welcome at 15:58 when Lauri Korpikoski tallied his first of the season on a nifty feed from Mike Ribeiro. Penalties would continue to haunt the Desert Dogs however and Jeff Skinner evened the score at three with less than a minute to go in the second after Radim Vrbata went to the box for tripping. The Coyotes wasted no time in the third period with Klinkhammer scoring his second of the game just 22 seconds into the period. While penalties continued to plague the Coyotes through the third Doan would put the icing on the cake at the 7:11 mark on the power play with his first goal of the season.
