It’s no secret that the Phoenix Suns are in need of a point guard, so you would think they would be zeroing in on D’Angelo Russell, who is set to be a restricted free agent this summer.
Not so fast.
According to Zach Lowe of ESPN, the Suns are actually focusing on veteran floor general Ricky Rubio. Lowe adds that Phoenix will look at Russell, who’s close with Devin Booker, but Rubio seems to be the main target. The Suns currently only have about $14 million in cap room, making Rubio a more feasible target.
Rubio is coming off a 2018-19 campaign with the Utah Jazz in which he played 68 games and averaged 12.7 points, 6.1 assists, 3.6 rebounds and 1.3 steals over 27.9 minutes per game while shooting 40.4 percent from the floor, 31.1 percent from 3-point range and 85.5 percent from the free-throw line.
