It has been clear from the get-go that the Philadelphia Phillies are interested in the top free agents in this class, pacing after Bryce Harper and Manny Machado.

But unless their spending is the right level of "stupid," it now seems like they'll have trouble attracting Machado, according to Scott Lauber.

It's safe to say that the top destination for Machado is the New York Yankees, and it seems that Philadelphia realizes as much. They're going to have to offer him an absurd deal for him to come to the City of Brotherly Love.

As long as the Yankees are interested and their offer is competitive, it appears Philly will have to empty the vault.
