Bryce Harper still remains a free agent and is continuing contract negotiations with teams around the league, including the Philadelphia Phillies. It seems that one of the main issues with Harper's demands has been an opt-out clause, but following Nolan Arenado's new deal with the Rockies, Harper may get what he's after.
Arenado has an opt-out clause in his deal after three seasons, something which the Phillies may extend to Harper in order to lure him to the team. Perhaps Harper doesn't feel comfortable fully committing 10 years to a team without any chance of an exit.
Certainly, Nolan Arenado's opt-out clause after three years may pave the way for the #Phillies to provide opt-out after 2021 to Bryce Harper, which has been one of the sticking points in negotiations.— Bob Nightengale (@BNightengale) February 26, 2019
