Nevada is expected to hire Steve Alford as its next head coach barring a late breakdown in negotiations, sources told Stadium's Jeff Goodman.

The school has informed other coaches up for the job that it's negotiating a contract with another candidate, multiple sources told CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein.

UCLA fired Alford in December after a 7-6 start. The 54-year-old posted a 124-63 record, guiding his team to three Sweet 16 appearances during his six-year run with the Bruins.

Alford is no stranger to the Mountain West Conference after coaching New Mexico for six seasons prior to his stint at UCLA.
