Bleacher Report have claimed Leeds United are interested in raiding River Plate for right-back Gonzalo Montiel this summer, weeks after reports claimed West Ham were set to complete the signing of the defender.

Montiel, 23, is regarded as one of the best right-backs in world football, yet to chance his arm in Europe. Indeed, Montiel has clocked up 91 appearances for River in all competitions – and earned four Argentina caps.

Argentine outlet El Intransigente claimed just over a fortnight ago that West Ham were closing in on the signing of Montiel after losing Pablo Zabaleta and Jeremy Ngakia. It was claimed a deal could be confirmed in ‘days’.
