Quarterback Josh Freeman released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday has reportedly been contacted by the 49ers. The 49ers “courted” Freeman but he is not interested because he views himself as a starter reported Mike Silver of the NFL Network. Freeman has started 59 games in his five-year career. The 49ers signed quarterback John Skelton a fourth-year player to a one-year contract last week. Skelton replaced rookie B.J. Daniels on the 49ers’ roster. The Seattle Seahawks claimed Daniels off waivers. Colt McCoy and Skelton are behind starter Colin Kaepernick on the 49ers’ depth chart. Neither McCoy nor Skelton is signed for next season.
