The back-and-forth has been resolved in Washington. The franchise tag will be applied to linebacker Brian Orakpo. The team has announced that Orakpo has gotten the tag. The annual window for doing so closes at 4:00 p.m. ET Monday. Drafted as a defensive end in 2009 when the team used a 4-3 defense, Orakpo became a linebacker in 2010. If the NFL’s Management Council applies the linebacker franchise tender, Orakpo and the NFLPA could argue that he’s actually a defensive end. The gap isn’t gigantic; the linebacker tag for 2014 stands at $11.455 million. Defensive ends get $13.116 million.
