The Reds have hired veteran Major League coach Lee Tinsley as the team’s assistant hitting coach. Tinsley, 44, will assist new hitting coach Don Long. “He’ll help hitting and he’ll help (Billy) Hatcher with outfield and baserunning,” Reds general manager Walt Jocketty said. Ronnie Ortegon was the Reds’ assistant hitting coach last season. Ortegon, coincidently, replaced Long as the Braves’ minor league hitting coordinator. Tinsley played five years with the Red Sox, Mariners and Phillies.
