Cincinnati Reds shortstop Zack Cozart was claimed and blocked on waivers, FanRag Sports has learned. Cozart’s status as a claimed player who was pulled back by the Reds means he will not be traded by the deadline Thursday night. The Reds made several attempts to trade Cozart over the past couple years and probably came the closest at last year’s trade deadline, when a deal was agreed to with the Mariners. That deal was killed when someone else in the deal came up with an issue in the physical. Cozart has had a brilliant season; he has 17 home runs to go with a .309/.401/.555 line. His .956 OPS is good for a 146 OPS+; he’d help many teams. However, the contending teams had no great need for a shortstop.
