The Detroit Red Wings’ top goaltending prospect is turning pro after an outstanding first season in college.
The Red Wings have signed Filip Larsson to a three-year entry-level contract that begins in the 2019-20 season. He is expected to join the AHL Grand Rapids Griffins next season.
Larsson, 20, just finished his freshman season at the University of Denver, where he led the Pioneers to the NCAA Frozen Four after posting back-to-back shutouts in the West Regional.
Larsson posted a 13-6-3 record, 1.95 goals-against average, .932 save percentage and four shutouts in 22 appearance. The Stockholm, Sweden, native was named to the 2019 NCHC All-Rookie Team and was also a finalist for the conference’s goalie of the year award.
