There was at least one bit of positive news for the Red Wings Tuesday despite a discouraging 2-0 loss to Nashville. Bob McKenzie of TSN in Canada was first to report the Red Wings are close to signing defenseman Jonathan Ericsson to a new contract. Ericsson, 29, can be an unrestricted free agent this summer. A source confirmed the sides are getting close to an agreement. McKenzie reported the contract will be for either four or five years, with an average value of slighty more than $4 million per season. Ericsson is currently in the final season of a deal worth $3.25 million.
