Xabi Alonso is set for another spell on the sidelines after picking up his third injury of the year during yesterday's game against Valencia. Real Madrid won the game 3-2 and although Alonso played 90 minutes, tests later revealed he had suffered burst ear drum. The incident occurred during a tackle with Jeremy Mathieu on 13 minutes, and Alonso was later ordered not to fly. "After undergoing medical tests it has been found that Xabi Alonso has a perforated left eardrum as a result of a blow received in the match against Valencia," a Real Madrid statement read. This is the third injury of note that Alonso has suffered this year, having recovered from groin and foot injuries already.
