RHP Ryne Stanek, taken with the 29th overall pick, signed Tuesday for $1,758,300 - the suggested bonus for his slot. Stanek, a University of Arkansas product, will report to the Rays' minor-league complex in Port Charlotte to get his arm back into shape, then join the Short-A team at Hudson Valley. Rays executive VP of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said Stanek, 21, has everything he needs to be successful at the major-league level. He just needs to strengthen a few areas of his game. "The core ingredients are in place for him to be really good, so now it's about molding and making him a finished product and get him here as soon as we can," he said. The Rays will limit Stanek's workload this summer because of all the innings he pitched at Arkansas. He is scheduled to finish the year in the instructional league. "Next spring we'll let him loose," Friedman said. Roberts heads back to Durham INF Ryan Roberts was optioned to Triple-A Durham to make room for LHP David Price, who was activated from the disabled list and faced the Astros.
