The Raptors were never going to pay John Salmons $7 million to play in Toronto next season and have turned the veteran backup into a package of two players. Facing a Monday deadline to guarantee Salmons’ salary for next season, Toronto will instead trade the 34-year-old to the Atlanta Hawks for guard Lou Williams and prospect Lucas Nogueira, according to team sources. Williams, a nine-year veteran, averaged 10.4 points and 3.5 assists per game with the Hawks last season. He is entering the final year of a contract that will pay him $5.45 million next season. Nogueira, a seven-foot Brazilian nicknamed Bebe, was a first-round pick (16th overall) in the 2013 NBA draft and has been playing in Spain since 2009. He is under contract to Estudiantes of the Spanish league for the coming season and there is no word on any buyout.
