The Rangers received a scare when right fielder Nelson Cruz reported to the clubhouse complaining of chest pain, which had come on overnight. The club medical staff thought a strained intercostal muscle was causing the discomfort but thought it prudent to send Cruz to a hospital for a battery of tests. The results were negative, and Cruz was released in the afternoon. “I think Nelson was more afraid than anything else,” manager Ron Washington said. The Rangers will meet with Cruz on Saturday to determine his status and whether he should participate in the World Baseball Championship. Cruz is scheduled to join the Dominican Republic team Sunday.
