Second baseman Ian Kinsler said that he and the Rangers came close to reaching a contract extension but failed to do so before the start of the season today. Kinsler said that he does not want to negotiate during the season, though he seemed to leave open the possibility that agent Jay Franklin could continue to work with general manager Jon Daniels toward a new deal. "Close enough to be disappointed that it's not done," Kinsler said. "If they continue talking, I'm not involved in it and don't want to be involved in it."
