People think the hardest part about this job is thinking of a pithy lead on deadline.

They’re wrong. The hardest part is explaining to the bride why you have to watch two Canucks games, Flames-Oilers, the golf from Phoenix and the Super Bowl in one weekend. That’s pressure, but it does help produce the Monday morning musings and meditations on the world of sports.

The Calder Trophy race is far from decided but, from a Vancouver perspective at least, Quinn Hughes has pulled slightly ahead of Colorado’s Cale Makar.

Hughes now leads all rookie scorers with 39 points, two ahead of Makar; their fancy statistics are comparable and Hughes averages 53 seconds more ice time per game.
