The status of Purdue star receiver David Bell for Saturday’s game against Illinois remains unclear after the junior entered concussion protocol following a head injury suffered at Notre Dame, coach Jeff Brohm said Monday.

Bell was carted off the field Saturday after staying on the ground for an extended period of time following a hit from Irish safety Kyle Hamilton. Purdue said afterward that Bell was up and walking with his teammates after the game, a 27-13 loss that dropped the Boilermakers to 2-1.

Bell had entered Saturday leading the Big Ten in receiving yards per game (127.5). He had seven catches for 64 yards against the Irish, including a diving 32-yard catch in the third quarter that set up Purdue’s only touchdown.
