Roster cuts began on Tuesday as all teams dropped from 90-to-75 players. The Patriots have been gradually releasing players over the last week and entered the day with a roster of 80 players. The Patriots got creative with their roster in order to get down to the roster limit. The team also played Dion Lewis and Sebastian Vollmer on the physically unable to perform/reserve list. To get to the final 75-man limit, the Patriots final three roster cuts were linebacker Ramon Humber, tight end Steven Scheu and offensive tackle Keavon Milton. The final cut will happen on Saturday when all teams drop to 53 players by 4 p.m. The news with Lewis was expected. The running back had knee surgery last week after suffering a setback. Although he didn’t re-injure his previously torn ACL, Lewis will now be out until at least Week Seven. There’s optimism that the back will return this season. Vollmer has been dealing with hip and shoulder injuries. There seems to less optimism surrounding the right tackle’s availability this year.
