A Detroit Pistons scout has been hospitalized with COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus.

Maury Hanks, a college scout in the Pistons organization since 2014, has been hospitalized in Tennessee, where he bases his work. His condition is considered serious, a person with knowledge of the situation told the Free Press.

"We are aware of Maury Hanks' hospitalization for COVID-19 and following developments closely," Ed Stefanski, special advisor to Pistons owner Tom Gores, said in a statement Thursday. "Our thoughts are with his wife, Susan, and his family.

"Maury and I started in the NBA together over 20 years ago. He's a fighter and we will support both he and his family through this."
