Entering the final full week of the regular season, the Pirates designated two players who have been with them since the start of spring training: Infielder Michael Chavis and outfielder Greg Allen.
The decisions were corresponding moves to add Miguel Andújar to the active roster after claiming off waivers from the Yankees Sunday and activating catcher José Godoy off of the taxi squad. Godoy also had his contract selected.
When talking about the decision to let go of Chavis and Allen, Derek Shelton cited playing opportunities down the stretch.
"The main part of the decisions was how we were going to distribute at-bats over the next 10 games," Shelton said.
