The Pirates entered the offseason with offensive voids at shortstop, first base and right field. Now they also must find a hitting coach. Pirates hitting coach Jay Bell has left the organization to become the bench coach with the Cincinnati Reds, a Pirates official confirmed Tuesday morning. Fox Sports first reported Bell's departure. Bell was hired as the Pirates' hitting coach in October 2012. The former Pirates shortstop had been the hitting coach with the Arizona Diamondbacks' Double-A affiliate in 2012. Bell and new Reds manager Bryan Price worked together in the Diamondbacks organization from 2007-09 when Price was the team's pitching coach. Along with Pirates manager Clint Hurdle, who was once a hitting coach with the Texas Rangers, Bell was unable to help the Pirates to dramatically boost their offense in 2013.
