The Philadelphia Phillies have formally announced that the club has retained Rick Kranitz for the team’s 2018 coaching staff while adding John Mallee as its hitting coach and Dusty Wathan as the club’s third base coach. Kranitz is currently the club’s assistant pitching coach, who has served as the pitching coach for the Milwaukee Brewers, Baltimore Orioles and Miami Marlins during his tenure. He played in the Brewers’ system back in the 1980s but failed to break through to the majors. Following the Chicago Cubs’ postseason run — which ended with a defeat in the NLCS to the Los Angeles Dodgers — the club parted ways with Mallee in favor of Chili Davis. Mallee started his coaching service as a minor league hitting coordinator with the Marlins.
