Not too bad this time, Justin Verlander. The Detroit Tigers ace posted his first quality start in his past four outings, giving up just three runs in seven innings while striking out 13, as the Detroit Tigers open their 2-game home series vs. the Pittsburgh Pirates with a 6-5 win on Memorial Day at Comerica Park. Jhonny Peralta pitched in with a 4-for-4 day, driving in three runs. Prince Fielder went 2-for4 with three runs. Miguel Cabrera, however, went 0-for-4 to snap his hitting streak at 12 games. Francisco Liriano (3-1) took his first loss of the season for the Pirates. Verlander moves to 6-4 with the win. Jose Valverde picked up his sixth save of the season with a scoreless ninth.
