The New Orleans Pelicans will introduce newly acquired swingman Tyreke Evans at an 11 a.m. press conference Thursday, while the team announced, first on its website, the signings of center Greg Stiemsma and forward Al-Farouq Aminu to contracts. The team also announced the acquisition of Evans and center Jeff Withey, also on the website, in a three-team deal involving the Sacramento Kings, who obtained Vasquez, and Portland Trail Blazers who acquired center Robin Lopez and guard Terrel Harris. Stiemsma's one-year, $2.7 million contract was confirmed earlier in the day by his agent, Mark Bartelstein, and Aminu had texted last week that he'd be back in New Orleans. Aminu reportedly signed for one year and $3.7 million. The Pelicans have yet to announce officially that they've acquired point guard Jrue Holiday from the Philadelphia 76ers for the rights to Nerlens Noel and a protected first-round pick in 2014, a deal reported on June 27, nor the reported signing of free-agent guard Anthony Morrow, who reportedly will sign a two-year contract, the first year for the veteran minimum of nearly $900,000, the second year is an option. Holiday was married over the weekend and is apparently on his honeymoon; he will not be at the Thursday press conference. To make room for Stiemsma, the Pelicans waived forward Lance Thomas, who was scheduled to earn $884,293 this season, as well as renounced the rights to guards Roger Mason Jr. and Xavier Henry as well as forward Lou Amundson. The Pelicans' total payroll is perilously near the NBA salary cap threshold of $58.679 million.
