The news with respect to the Patriots and Wes Welker coming to terms on a deal today isn’t encouraging. In fact, I’ve heard talks have ended for the day. Essentially, Welker is officially on the open market while the Patriots might now have to consider the possibility of him signing elsewhere. They might have to look at Plan B. Given things tend to be fluid in free agency, that doesn’t mean the sides won’t come back together and try to hammer something out. But for now, there’s no agreement between the team, and the veteran receiver, who has been Tom Brady’s go-to-guy the past six seasons. While Pats owner Robert Kraft said yesterday he loved Welker and hoped Welker “remains a Patriot for life, just like Tom Brady,” that’s not close to happening at the moment.
Patriots, Wes Welker not close
