Paris Saint-Germain only launched their bid to sign Neymar when they realised they wouldn't be able to lure Cristiano Ronaldo to France. The Brazilian joined for a record £198million last month after deciding to leave Barcelona . But according to reports in Spain, PSG were initially confident of signing Ronaldo when the Real Madrid star expressed a desire to leave. Ronaldo appeared in court in July accused of tax fraud and has grown frustrated with life in Spain. And PSG were ready to make an offer but were put off by the player's silence - and turned to Neymar.
