T.J. Oshie will be back on the ice tonight after a 24-hour whirlwood that might have made his Olympic experience seem tame. Oshie and his fiancée, Lauren Cosgrove, welcomed Lyla Grace Oshie into the world at 9:57 a.m. on Monday. “It was amazing,” Oshie said after the Blues landed in Chicago, where they’ll take on the Blackhawks at 7 tonight at United Center. “I feel like a lot of people tried to explain to me how it was going to feel and I think you just can’t explain it until you go through it. It was the coolest thing I’d ever been apart of. It was absolutely amazing.” Oshie, who received a visit at the hospital from Blues general manager Doug Armstrong, considered suiting up against the Winnipeg Jets that night but decided against that idea around 4:30 p.m. “I tried thinking about going to the game and sitting through a couple meetings and then putting my gear on and going out for warm-ups,” Oshie said. “There’s no way that my head would have been in it. At this point in the season, we need the points. I think I would have been OK on the ice, but I don’t think my head would have been there. One hundred percent of my focus was on the baby girl.” Oshie did, however, tune into the game. “We took a little break from seeing her and went and watched on TV,” he said. “It’s so hard (watching). Lauren was giggling every time I’d scream or yell for something probably a normal fan wouldn’t notice — a mistake or really good play — but I would notice.
