Oklahoma junior defensive back Tre Norwood will miss the 2019 season after suffering a non-contact injury in the first week of fall camp, coach Lincoln Riley announced Friday.

"One of those that you wonder," Riley said. "You see guys make plays or movements like that all the time. Sometimes they happen."

Riley didn’t specify the injury, but Norwood was seen on crutches after practice Tuesday.

Norwood was expected to be OU's primary starter at nickelback. The Fort Smith, Arkansas native had started 19 consecutive games dating back to his freshman season.

Norwood made 14 starts a year ago, finishing fifth on the team with 58 tackles. He snagged his only interception in the final minute of the Big 12 Championship game against Texas.
