Ryan Smyth gave Edmonton Oilers fans what they wanted before and during Monday?s NHL game at Rexall Place. After the Oilers handed out 10,000 Smyth bobblehead dolls, the real thing tucked a backhand behind Pekka Rinne after a juicy pass from Shawn Horcoff for the game-winning goal early in the third period as the Oilers overcame the stubborn defensive work of the Nashville Predators for a 3-1 victory. Before the 35-year-old Smyth got his 272nd goal as an Oiler, sneaking in behind Nashville defenceman Kevin Klein, Edmonton got a goal from a player not named Ryan when Taylor Hall lifted one over Rinne's desperate glove. It came on a power-play feed from rookie Ryan Nugent-Hopkins to tie the score 1-1 5- minutes into the last period.
