The Edmonton Oilers have parted ways with defenceman Ladislav Smid. On Friday, the Oilers announced they had traded Smid and goaltending prospect Olivier Roy to the Calgary Flames in exchange for centre Roman Horak and goaltender Laurent Brossoit. Horak, 22, originally selected by the New York Rangers in the fifth round – 127th overall – in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, has spent the past three years in the Flames organization. He was playing for the Flames AHL affiliate in Abbotsford this season, scoring two goals and adding five assists in 13 games. Brossoit was also in Abbotsford, playing two games, giving up nine goals. Brossoit led the WHL’s Edmonton Oil Kings to a league title two years ago and help the club get back to the final last season
