Had the Edmonton Oilers traded Linus Omark four years ago, it would have generated shock waves and banner headlines. Today, it was little more than a minor blip when they shipped the 26-year-old winger the Buffalo Sabres for a conditional sixth round draft pick. The 30th place Sabres, desperate for offence, will try and get something out of Omark that Edmonton couldn't. No question, though, Omark's departure is in sharp contrast to his arrival. The YouTube Kid showed up in Edmonton to enormous fanfare, thanks to a handful of spectacular highlight reel goals back in Sweden and Moscow, but he never lived up to the expectations in the big leagues. Though he was a point-per-game player in the AHL — 76 in 75 over three seasons — he couldn’t weave the same magic in the NHL.
