Craig MacTavish has secured another piece with the signing of Sam Gagner. The Edmonton Oilers general manager has had a busy off-season transforming his hockey club. For the most part, MacTavish likes the way things have developed. “We’re reasonably happy right now,” he said. “I’m optimistic that we’re going to be a very good team. We’ve certainly have a chance to be a good team.” MacTavish has made a number of significant roster changes since taking over the general manager’s role from Steve Tambellini. He’s likely not done, but says he would not be too uncomfortable going into training camp with the group he’s put together, even if he has nine defencemen signed to NHL contracts.
