The Edmonton Oilers have acquired centre Jerred Smithson from the Florida Panthers for a fourth-round draft pick. The trade comes two hours before the NHL's trade deadline at 1 p.m. MDT. Smithson, 34, adds size, faceoff ability and veteran presence to the Oilers' third and fourth lines. The Calgary Hitmen grad, who played in the WHL through the 1999-2000 season, went undrafted but signed with the Los Angeles Kings. He made his NHL debut in the 2002-03 season.
