Owings Mills (Md.) McDonogh School defensive lineman Mason Robinson announced his commitment to Northwestern on Friday afternoon as head coach Pat Fitzgerald and the Wildcats stay hot on the recruiting trail.

The 6-foot-4, 230-pound Robinson chose Northwestern over a slew of other programs including his other finalist Penn State. He took an official to Evanston in mid-May.

“I obviously loved my visit to Northwestern and when it came down to the decision my family and my coaches were very vital,” Robinson told 247Sports. “I was down between Penn State and Northwestern and when I wrote out all of the pros and cons they were just about even in every category but there were a couple of deciding factors for Northwestern like the Northwestern degree, and being not too far away from the the city of Chicago.
