Wichita State became the first team ever to go 30-0 in the regular season, defeating Bradley 69-49 on Tuesday night inside Carver Arena. Ron Baker led the way with 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting, including 3-of-7 from three-point range, while pulling down six rebounds. Tekele Cotton had 13 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Tekele Cotton started the scoring for Wichita State, opening the game with a three-pointer from the left corner and then connected on two free throws to put the Shockers up 5-2 at the 17:21 mark. Four minutes later, Cotton hit another three and Fred VanVleet made a transition layup to stretch the lead to 12-7. Halfway through the first 20 minutes, Ron Baker drove baseline for a dunk to put the Shockers up seven, 18-11. After the Braves cut the lead down to four with 3:39 left in the first half, Wichita State rattled off an 8-0 run, fueled by three-pointers from Baker and Cleanthony Early and a dunk by Darius Carter to put the Shockers up 34-22 with less than a minute remaining. Wichita State went into the locker room up 35-25 and we led by nine points from Baker. Cotton contributed eight points, while Carter added seven points and six rebounds. The Shockers shot 11-for-23 (.478) from the field and had three first half blocks. VanVleet came out of the locker room on fire, nailing back-to-back shots from long distance to put Wichita State ahead 41-27 with 17:20 remaining in the game. Then, after Bradley cashed-in on an old-fashioned three-point play, Early answered with a three-pointer of his own on the next Shocker possession Baker then continued the three-point barrage for the Shockers, connecting on two more shots from long distance to stretch the Wichita State lead to 50-32 with less than 13 minutes to go. Kadeem Coleby hit the first two-point field goal of the second half for the Shockers at the 10:20 mark and later an 8-2 run by the Shockers capped by a layup from Chadrack Lufile saw Wichita State’s lead stretch to 62-42 with 6:56 remaining in the game.
