Newcastle United have turned to the French league once again for new players with the club eyeing up Bordeaux striker Cheick Diabate. Magpies boss Alan Pardew has plucked several bargains from across the channel in recent transfer windows, with his scouts having a firm focus on Ligue 1. And his penchant for buys from France is showing no sign of slowing down with powerful hitman Diabate emerging as a key January target. It’s thought Newcastle representatives have watched the 25-year-old on a number of occasions in recent weeks, including the recent win over Montpellier in which he scored. Arsenal and West Ham are also known to be tracking Diabate, who has been dubbed ‘the new Emmanuel Adebayor’. However, Newcastle believe their French connection can help them get ahead in the race, with the club set to lodge a £5million bid in the new year. Pardew has made adding another forward a huge priority for the next transfer window, having failed to land a number of striker targets in the summer.
