Although he was waived in July to clear salary cap space the New Orleans Pelicans re-signed forward Lance Thomas to a two-year contract on Thursday. The Pelicans also announced they have extended a non-guaranteed contract to free agent power forward/center Arinze Onuaku who played in the NBA Development League last season. Thomas 6 feet 8 225 pounds was waived in July for the franchise to sign center Greg Stiemsma. If the Pelicans had not waived Thomas he would have earned $884293 this upcoming season. With his new deal Thomas will earn the veteran minimum. Entering his third season Thomas has appeared in 101 games and averaged 3.1 points and 2.4 rebounds for New Orleans. After the Pelicans announced the deal on Thursday Thomas tweeted that he wanted to thank the Pelicans organization for continuing his career and relationship with the team and the city. Onuaku who played at Syracuse has appeared in 43 games over two seasons in the NBA Development League. Onuaku 6-9 275 averaged 12.6 points and 9.5 rebounds in 38 games last season for the Canton Charge of the NBA Development League.
