A source said the Nets are not interested in signing free agent center Jason Collins, the first openly gay active athlete in the four major professional sports in this country. Collins has significant history with several members of the Nets organization, including coach Jason Kidd and assistant Lawrence Frank – who he played alongside and under, respectively, in the opening seven years of his career with the Nets. He also played alongside newly acquired Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Jason Terry last season in Boston, Joe Johnson the previous three seasons in Atlanta and is represented by Arn Tellem, who works out of the same agency that represents Johnson, Terry and Brook Lopez.
