The NBA announced that they have suspended Willie Reed six games without pay for a domestic violence situation that happened on Aug. 6 after he argued with his wife when she asked for a divorce. He was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor. His wife, however, didn’t want to press charges and since the arrest, he has entered counseling and a pretrial diversion program to resolve the criminal charges and avoid jail time. The NBA released the following statement: “The NBA conducted its own investigation into this matter, reviewing all available materials and interviewing the parties involved. The NBA also consulted with a group of domestic violence experts who provide the league with guidance in such cases.” The National Basketball Players Association, however, has taken an issue with the suspension and has filed a grievance on Reed’s behalf.
