Last month, nearly every team in the NBA watched LaMelo Ball practice with the Illawarra Hawks ahead of their big matchup with the reigning NBL champions, the Perth Wildcats.

According to Jonathan Givony of ESPN, the NBA league office informed teams that they weren’t actually permitted to do that and will enforce the rule when RJ Hampton and the New Zealand Breakers are in the United States for their preseason matchups with the Memphis Grizzlies and Oklahoma City Thunder. The teams that scouted Ball and Hampton at practice at the NBL Blitz in Tasmania could also be fined, per Givony.
